Classes

The Provincial Instructor's Diploma Program is offered through Vancouver Community College through the School of Instructor Education.

The course is designed to prepare for people for rewarding employment as an adult educator. Students in this program build knowledge and skills to design, develop, manage and evaluate the instruction of adults in post-secondary education, business, industry and non-traditional adult learning environments.

The first course is called Foundations of Adult Education where we researched and discussed trends in Adult Education, discussed lesson planning strategies and how we could apply them to our own teaching situations, and reflected through the use of a reflective journal and creation of a blog.

The next course I took is called Instructional Strategies where we experience a variety of instructional strategies and techniques which can then be applied to our own teaching practice. The main instructional strategies include group discussions, journal writing and reflective practices, blogging and digital projects.

I have completed the PID course called Media-Enhanced Learning where the main goal of the course is for students to create, select, use and justify media, technology and tools for their various teaching and learning environments. The course emphasizes the application of media related concepts, copyright laws, media approaches and learning theories in the creation and selection of instructional media. Participants will investigate the current trends and issues, and will work with a wide range of instructional media tools.

Nearing the end of my PID journey now and I am taking a the Professional Practice course which discusses effective instruction, instructor competencies, informal and formal assessment and evaluation of instruction, as well as ethics, professionalism and career management. A central focus of the course will be to define my vision of effective instruction and design feedback instruments that assess my instructional competencies. The course also highlights the importance of developing a career management strategy which includes a professional development plan.
